Gerald “Jerry” Veerasammy

Jerry has spent his life in boxing, teaching people the sport and standing in their corner.

Before Surrey School of Boxing, he coached at Queensborough Boxing Club. A local newspaper featured eight of his boxers who had qualified for the Canadian amateur championships. That work continued in Surrey, where he has coached boxers at every stage.

Boxing BC named Jerry Coach of the Year in 2016. One of the boxers he coached, Eric Basran, represented Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

In the gym, Jerry pays attention to the details: how you stand, move, defend, and think. He asks boxers to put the work in and learn the sport properly. His line, “Not a school of boxing. A school of life,” comes from what he has spent years teaching.
